 As early as
1888 lumber mills were a part of the way of life in Anacortes.
Over the years there have been many types of mills, such as
sawmills, shingle mills, box mills, lumber, pulp and even plywood
and veneer mills. These mills provided a mainstay for the citizens
of our town although many operations succumbed to the raging blaze
of fire. The last mill fire was in 1992, which signaled a final
end of an era of industry that lasted over 100 years on Fidalgo
Island. |
