Is My House in the HPI?

1. Click on the 'Search' tab

2. Enter your street address
Enter a minimal steet name.  For example, 'Park' instead of 'E. Park' or 'East Park'. 

NOTE that you may need to enter two spaces between the house number and the street name instead of just one.
3. Enter 'Anacortes' for the city
A list of city names will appear as you type.  You can simply click 'Anacortes' when you see it on the list.
4. Click the 'Search' button (2)

5. See the search results
WISAARD automatically switches to the results tab.  A record will be displayed if your house is in the Historic Property Inventory.  If no records are found, your house is not in the historic inventory.  If you think this is wrong, give us a call at the Museum.
Use the horizontal scroll bar to see the entire record.  Position your cursor over the buttons leading the record for an explanation of their purpose.

Edit Survey (you will not be allowed to edit)
View Document - this will only show scans of old paper forms from surveys done before the Historic Inventory electronic data base was created.
View photos
View report - this is a fo - this is a formal/souvenir-quality report that you can save and/or print for your records.
zoom to a map of the area with dots representing the locations of properties in the HPI and/or Washington State Register.

NOTE that you can enter just the street number and WISAARD will list all the properties on that street. Likewise, just entering Anacortes (with the street address blank) will list all historic properties in the city.

 

How Many Properties Are in the HPI?

1. Click on the 'Search' tab

2. Enter 'Anacortes' for the city
A list of city names will appear as you type.  You can simply click 'Anacortes' when you see it on the list.
NOTE that you can also enter a street name to get a list of all historic properties on just that street, if you wish.
4. Click the 'Search' button (2)

5. See the search results
WISAARD automatically switches to the results tab. Notice the count listed above the result list window.

 

Using the Map

Zoom to Anacortes
(A) Click the 'Zoom In' button. Position the cross-hair on the map and drag (by holding your left mouse button down) to make a rectangle around the area you want to zoom to (and release your mouse button).

(B) ) Alternatively you can click the circular '+' and '-' buttons in the map area. Clicking the 'Pan' button will enable dragging the map image to show the area of interest. In this mode you also can simply click on the point you want to be centered in the view.
'Previous' and 'Next' buttons
These function as 'Undo' and 'Redo' for map zooming and panning.
See the Historic Property locations
As you zoom in, dots appear on the map.  Pink dots are the locations of historic inventory properties (clear the Historic Property Inventory check box under the 'Layers' tab to not display these).  Labeled maroon dots are properties in the Washington State Register and are labeled (clear the Historic Register Properties check box to not display these).

Identify a Site
Click the 'Identify' button.
Place your cursor over the dot of interest and click your left mouse button.
NOTE that you may need to change the 'Show Me:' property type on the down in the identification box in the identification bubble.

List Sites in an Area
Click the 'Select' button.
Position the cursor at a corner and drag (holding down your left mouse button) out a rectangle of your area of interest (releasing the mouse button when done).
WISAARD will automatically switch to the 'Results' tab displaying the records for the historic properties within your chosen area.
You can print this list if you wish.
Clicking on the 'Map' tab will return to the map, but with the sites in your chosen area highlighted with a green outline.
You may click 'Clear' when done with this area search.
