Local Historical Research Sources
Washington State Digital Archives has on-line access to a wide variety of records that are useful for historical research, most notably census records and the Social Security Death Index for Washington State.
Skagit River Journal has many historic pictures and stories in and around Anacortes as well as an on-line subscription magazine.
Our Century is a compilation of excerpts from the Anacortes American since 1900. Historical snippets are regularly featured in the Back In The Day column of the Anacortes American. Archives of these articles can be found on-line by using goSkagit.com's advanced search tool (search for the exact phrase 'Back in the Day in Anacortes' in 'titles').
Property records since March 1979 can be reviewed on-line at the Access Skagit County web-site. The Assessor/Auditor records include a current photograph as well as access to GIS mapping.
The NorthWest Regional Branch of the State Archives, in Bellingham, is the repository for the area's public records. The web-site lists the records on file and directions to the facility and phone numbers and other information on research services that are also available. Open 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
The Anacortes Museum Research Library includes historic preservation materials. Open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10-4 PM, 1305 8th St. It is recommended to call ahead of your visit: 360-293-1915. Click the "Research Library" button on the title bar, above, for more information.
